11 Hours In Nairobi (Updated)

Delivered safe courtesy of Kenya Airways. The in flight entertainment system was busted and I mean just non functional in my seat. The flight was full in addition to the funky system. The courtesy from the in-flight staff was second to none. All of the staff skipping their three hour break to cater to the flight’s 300 passengers with exceptional service. This trip started off right.

Hour 1: On the ground and I have already been sorted with a visa and one of the flight attendants from the flight has let me use her phone to contact the driver for the hotel… Classy.

Hour 2: I have decided that my driver is hilariously insane. Dude will not stop talking to me about everything he knows in mixed Swahili and English. He is so animated that I can’t help but laugh…

Hour 3: Made it to the hotel over a battle hardened dirt road. I noticed a nice bar in the front garden in my rapid dash away from the Swahenglish anecdotes of the cabbie. Interesting trip in from the airport by the way. Apparently there is a ton of construction going on in the city because I passed no less than five home furnishings stores on the main road.

Hour 4: Having a drink with a local businessman. He is lecturing me on why Kenya has the most advanced services for mobile phones in the world. He talks banking, payments, transfers, in addition to communications. Note to self: Research this stuff before I forget about it.

Hours 5-9: I am a mosquito buffet. I must be sweet because they love me. Hmmm didn’t someone say something about malaria before I left…

Hour 10: OMG! The same cab driver is picking me up… here we go again. Ok, so that is only the checking line that is out the door. Thank God (praise Allah) for online check-in.

Hour 11: Yellow Fever Immunization papers? I need those? Hold up…
